The History of MAN in Brazil
MAN’s direct involvement in Brazil was largely through MAN Latin America, which was formed after MAN SE acquired Volkswagen Truck & Bus in Brazil in January 2009. This acquisition meant that MAN Latin America became responsible for the design, manufacturing, and sale of Volkswagen-branded trucks and buses in Brazil and other emerging markets.
The manufacturing operations were primarily based in Resende, Rio de Janeiro, where Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus (VWCO) had its plant. Under MAN Latin America, the company continued to be a market leader in Brazil for trucks and a strong player in buses, developing vehicles specifically tailored for the Latin American, African, and Middle Eastern markets.
